Firstly, Shopify Local Delivery is a built-in Shopify feature available on all Shopify plans. No additional app installation is required.
This guide explains how Shopify Local Delivery can be used alongside Rendr, and how Local Delivery orders can flow into the Rendr platform or external fulfilment platforms (such as Starshipit) for fulfilment.
1. Overview
The Rendr + Shopify Local Delivery setup allows merchants to use Shopify’s native Local Delivery feature to control checkout delivery logic, while still fulfilling those orders through Rendr or an external fulfilment system.
Shopify Local Delivery is ideal for merchants who want:
Full control over delivery zones and pricing
Simple, native checkout configuration
Location-based delivery logic without third-party rate apps
When combined with Rendr:
Local Delivery orders can be passed into the Rendr portal for fulfilment
Orders can also flow into external platforms (e.g. Starshipit) and then into Rendr
Rendr handles the physical delivery once the order is ready
What this setup enables
Multiple delivery locations
Distance-based or postcode-based delivery zones
Flat-rate or zone-based pricing
Checkout messaging (cut-offs, delivery notes, SLAs)
Flexible fulfilment routing into Rendr
2. How It Works (High-Level)
This setup uses Shopify as the checkout and delivery rules engine.
Shopify determines whether Local Delivery is available
Delivery eligibility is based on location, distance, or postcode
Customers see Local Delivery as a checkout option
Orders are placed using Local Delivery
-
Orders are routed into:
The Rendr portal, or
An external fulfilment platform (e.g. Starshipit), which then books Rendr
3. Prerequisites
Before setting up Shopify Local Delivery:
What you’ll need
A Shopify store (any plan)
Admin access to Shopify
At least one Shopify location configured
Inventory assigned to locations
A Rendr merchant account (for fulfilment)
4. Setting Up Local Delivery in Shopify
Step 1 – Open Local Delivery Settings
Log into your Shopify Admin
Go to Settings
Click Shipping and delivery
Scroll to Local delivery
Click Manage next to a location
⚠️ Local Delivery is configured per location.
Step 2 – Enable Local Delivery for a Location
Select a Shopify location
Toggle Local delivery to On
Choose how delivery areas are defined
Success looks like:
Local Delivery is active for that location
5. Delivery Zones
Shopify Local Delivery allows you to define delivery areas in two ways.
Option 1 – Postcode-Based Zones
Use this if you deliver to specific suburbs or postcodes.
Select Use postcodes
Enter the postcodes you deliver to
Save the zone
Best for:
Dense metro areas
Precise delivery boundaries
Option 2 – Radius-Based Zones
Use this if you deliver within a distance from a location.
Select Set a delivery radius
-
Choose:
Kilometres (km) or
Miles (mi)
Define distance ranges (zones)
Example zones:
0–10 km
10–20 km
20–30 km
You can create up to 5 delivery zones, with each having its own pricing rules.
For each zone, you can set:
Flat delivery price
Minimum order value (optional)
6. Delivery Information at Checkout
Shopify allows you to add custom delivery information per zone.
This text appears:
At checkout
In the order confirmation notification
Example use cases
Cut-off times
Same-day delivery messaging
Delivery day constraints
Example message:
ORDER BY 11AM & RECEIVE YOUR ORDER SAME DAY | MONDAY – FRIDAY
To configure:
Edit a delivery zone
Locate Delivery information
Enter your message
Click Save
7. Updating the Checkout Display Name
How to Rename “Local Delivery” at Checkout
Log into your Shopify Admin
Go to Online Store
Click Themes
Find your current (published) theme
Click the ⋯ (three dots) menu
Select Edit default theme content
Update the Local Delivery Label
In the search bar, type Local delivery
Locate the text field that contains Local Delivery
-
Replace it with your preferred label, for example:
Same Day Delivery
Local Same Day Delivery
Courier Delivery
Click Save
Success looks like:
The new name appears at checkout instead of “Local Delivery”
8. Multiple Locations
You can enable Local Delivery for as many Shopify locations as you like.
Each location can have:
Its own delivery zones
Its own pricing
Its own delivery messaging
This works well for:
Multi-store retailers
Dark stores
Distributed fulfilment networks
Shopify will automatically determine which location is eligible based on inventory availability.
9. Fulfilment with Rendr
Once an order is placed using Local Delivery:
Option 1 – Fulfil via Rendr Portal
Order flows into the Rendr platform (via Shopify Flow)
Store or warehouse books the delivery
Rendr collects and delivers the order
Option 2 – Fulfil via External Platforms (e.g. Starshipit)
Local Delivery order flows into the external platform
Store or warehouse books the delivery, which assigns Rendr as the carrier
Rendr fulfils the order
This approach allows Shopify Local Delivery to act as the checkout logic, while Rendr handles last-mile delivery.
10. Testing the Setup
Step 1 – Test an In-Range Address
Add a product to cart
Proceed to checkout
Enter an address inside a delivery zone
Expected result:
Local Delivery appears as a checkout option
Correct pricing and messaging are shown
Step 2 – Test an Out-of-Range Address
Enter an address outside all zones
Expected result:
Local Delivery does not appear
Step 3 – Confirm Order Flow
Place a Local Delivery order
-
Confirm the order appears in:
Shopify Orders
Rendr portal or connected fulfilment platform
Success looks like:
Order is ready for fulfilment and delivery booking
